Areas of Usage
Trisodium phosphate (TSP) is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula Na3PO4. It is a white, granular or crystalline solid and is highly soluble in an alkaline solution. TSPs are used as a cleaning agent, lubricant, food additive, stain remover and degreaser.
The element of commerce is mostly partially hydrated and can range from anhydrous Na3PO4 to dodehydrate Na3PO4.12H20. It is most often found in white powder form, it may also be called trisodium orthophosphate or simply sodium phosphate.
Uses
- It is used in a wide variety of fields such as photographic developers, steam boiler scale removal and scale prevention, water softening, detergent mixing, wet finishing - pH value adjuster, aluminium workpieces, polishes, bleaching of sugar, fermentation in food, as a complementary nutrient-mineral enrichment for livestock nutrition, etc.
- Tri sodium phosphate is a cleaning and degreasing agent mainly used to prepare domestic surfaces for painting.
- Most latex paints, including milk paint on furniture, can be removed by rubbing with a strong solution of TSP.
- After stripping any piece of wood, TSP can be used to remove the wax found in most paint removers.
- TSP is also used after washing with mineral extracts to completely remove the mineral extracts.
- TSP can be found in the same solution as household chlorine bleach and this is particularly good for removing mould from wood.
Paint Thinners
Chemical substances used to adjust the consistency and fluidity of the paint. They ensure that the paint is applied to the surface smoothly and dries.
The main functions of paint thinners are as follows
- Thinning the paint: If the paint is too thick, you can bring its consistency to the desired level by using a thinner. In this way, the paint is applied more easily and a smoother appearance is obtained.
- Increasing the fluidity of the paint: If the paint is too thick, it may be difficult to apply with a brush or roller. By using a thinner, you can increase its fluidity and provide ease of application.
- Accelerating the drying of the paint: Some thinners help shorten the drying time of the paint. In this way, you can use the painted surface faster.
Styrenated phenol (SP)
It is an oligomer produced by the reaction of phenol and styrene monomers. It is often used as an antioxidant and processing aid in rubber and plastics. Styrenated phenol can help improve the thermal stability and oxidative resistance of resins. It can also facilitate the processing of rubber and plastics and shorten the vulcanisation time.
Styrenated phenol is a light yellow, slightly odorous, powdery or granular solid. Insoluble in water, but soluble in organic solvents. Styrenated phenol is a substance of relatively low toxicity, but may cause skin irritation and respiratory problems.
Some common uses of styrenated phenol are
- Rubber: It is an antioxidant widely used in natural and synthetic rubbers. It helps prevent oxidative degradation and extend the life of rubber products.
- Plastic: Styrenated phenol is used as an antioxidant and processing aid in plastics such as polyolefins, polystyrene and polyvinyl chloride. It can help improve the thermal stability and oxidative resistance of resins. It can also facilitate the processing of plastics and shorten the production time.
- Adhesives: Styrenated phenol is used to improve the bond strength and thermal stability of adhesives.
- Coatings: Styrenated phenol is used to improve the resistance of coatings to oxidative degradation.
Styrenated phenol is a versatile additive that offers a variety of benefits. It can be used to improve the performance and lifetime of rubber and plastics.
