SYN 168

What are Acrylic Thickeners?

Acrylic thickeners are a type of additive used to increase viscosity (consistency) in water-based paints and coatings. They are produced from polyacrylamide or acrylic resins.

Benefits of Acrylic Thickeners

  • High Efficiency: Even a small amount of acrylic thickener is effective.
  • Excellent Thinning Stability: Acrylic thickeners maintain viscosity even when the paint is thinned.
  • Good Rheology Control: Helps control the fluidity of the paint and how it spreads and smooths on the surface.
  • Improved Abrasion Resistance: Helps create more durable paints.
  • Better Colour Retention: Prevents paint discolouration.

VISCOLAM PS 166

VISCOLAM PS 166 is a specialized polyurethane thickener used to increase the viscosity of water-based paints and coatings. It adjusts the paint's flow, making it denser.

Chemical Structure: It is made from a non-ionic polyurethane resin, meaning the molecular structure has no surface charge.

  • Appearance: White or light brown powder
  • Melting Point: 50-60°C
  • Density: 1.1-1.2 g/cm³
  • Solubility: Soluble in water

Benefits

  • High Efficiency: Even a small amount of VISCOLAM PS 166 is effective, allowing you to achieve the desired consistency with less material.
  • Thinning Stability: VISCOLAM PS 166 maintains viscosity even when the paint is thinned.
  • Good Flow Control: Controls how the paint spreads and levels on surfaces.
  • Increased Abrasion Resistance: Helps create more durable paints.
  • Improved Color Retention: Prevents the paint color from fading.
